Why does a contact show a webcam icon on Windows Live Messenger if they do not have one?

Or do they have one and are just not saying it? Has this happened to anyone else--the contact shows a webcam icon and a popup appears saying you and X both have webcams. . .but they say they don't have one?

I don't think that there is a way to set it so it shows you don't have one or anything. If you have some sort of audio/speakers or something set up maybe your computer detects them as some sort of webcam of communication, though not sure.

they have one but they just deny it...

it happens to me...

people dont like admitting they have webcams because they think that the next step is that the other person is gonna ask them to open it...

just for the record, if u knew... u can hide ur webcam icon even if u have one it wont show to the other person... in order to do that, go to the place where u change ur nickname and in that same box, the last sentence has to do with the webcam. I think it says "ALLOW OTHERS TO SEE THAT I HAVE A WEBCAM" if u UNcheck that, they wont be able to see it!!!

i'm not sure why... but i know sometimes it says i have webcam (when i don't) even when i un click the box saying "allow others to see i have webcam" *shrugs* so i guess you gotta decide if you belive them or not...
